Mena, Arkansas Road Rides

Bethesda Lake Loop- 13 miles
Ride loop clockwise, starting and ending at the beautiful Janssen Park in downtown Mena, Arkansas. Very quickly you are out of the city, and out into the country with rolling hills, through scenic pastures and farmland. All paved, with some of the country roads being mildly rough, but no pot holes. Once past Bethesda lake, there is a couple miles with dog concerns. They give chase, but do no look to serious about it. A little spray from my water bottle and they gave up chase. Returning back into town, there will be a short stretch of 4 lane, and a wide center lane for left hand turns, which you will take advantage of at the first signal light. Then through the old historic neighborhood and back to Janssen Park. Cool your feet in the Spring Water, and if you have some energy bar or snacks, take time to feed the ducks. Restaurants just a couple blocks away on main street.

McGuire Access Loop
30 Miles

Starting at Janssen Park.  This ride is on rolling hills with both highways having adequate shoulder most of the time.  Several Bridge Crossings, that are narrow and without Shoulder, so caution is advised at the bridge crossing.  The connector between Hwy 88 and Hwy 8 is the McGuire Access.  It is rolling hills on paved and seldom traveled country road.  Beautiful cattle and horse farms abound, and you may notice the occasional aroma of a local chicken farm.  You will ride past Lake Mena, and on through countryside that is mostly farmland for cattle and horses.  This route works well in either clockwise or counter clockwise.  Midway through the course brings you to the McGuire Access to the Ouachita River. The large concrete bridge provides crossing, but take time to rest by the Ouachita river and soak your feet in the cool water.  This is the Eastern-most put in for Canoe and Kayak on the Ouachita River.
